Every few years, I pick up “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. I love this book. Magically, I always receive the message I need to re-connect to my life’s burning desires. The last few chapters in particular have re-ignited a deep understanding that our thoughts create our reality – financial, spiritual, emotional, physical, professional.
I’ll open with this: “You have absolute control over but one thing, and that is your thoughts…If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else. Your mind is your spiritual estate! Protect and use it with the care to which divine royalty is entitled. You were given a will-power for this purpose.”
WOW. Meditate on that for a while. Go ahead. I’ll wait…
How many of us have lain awake at night, rat in the cage? “How will I pay the bills? Will I find true love? How can I be happy in my job?” And the Big One: “What if…?” Worry is the product of FEAR. Fear of poverty, fear of criticism, fear of loss of love, fear of illness, fear of death. But fear is a state of mind. If that’s the case, then fear can be controlled and channeled toward the attainment of your goals!
“Mind control is the result of self-discipline and habit. You either control your mind or it controls you…The most practical of all methods for controlling the mind is the habit of keeping it busy with a definite purpose, backed by a definite plan…Without this control, success is not possible.”
I was on a hike today with a dear friend. While discussing this very topic, I realized I have a definite purpose. No doubt. BUT I could certainly have a more definite plan. So I resolved to write down a specific plan for the attainment of each of my specific goals.
Oy, right? Yeah, it’s gonna require me to divert attention from all those other things swarming around on my mental to-do list. Truth be told, I’m excited to write it down concretely so I can look at it instead of worry about it in my mind. What will I do with all that CLARITY?!
Mr. Hill’s onto something. “Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought.” If our thoughts create our reality, then spend your time thinking positive thoughts that manifest the reality you so richly deserve. As I recently posted on the EcoRicoTV Facebook page (yes, please “like” it!), “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Think and it will be.
